The other day I overheard our boys chanting, “Show me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like!” as they built a lego city on the floor. We must be listening to a lot of occupy news. The little sponges are soaking up everything around them which is a good reason to be mindful of influences. Raising children that can survive societies hypocrisies and become empowered, fulfilled, grateful grown ups is no small task.
Help comes from many directions. In this moment, as I listen to them cheerfully chant about democracy, I am thankful for the ways the children teach us: to dream the biggest dreams, to stay present in the moment, to appreciate the little things. What would we do without them?
